Sinopsis | : | I would like to begin by expressing my gratitude to God Almighty, for it is by His grace that this book, Native English Speaker Lecturer’s Performances, has finally been completed. The idea for this book emerged from continuous observation and a sense of academic curiosity about the growing presence of native English speaker lecturers in higher education institutions, particularly within English language and international programs. They are often positioned as a symbol of internationalization and quality enhancement, yet their actual performance, pedagogical impact, and alignment with the Indonesian educational context have not been explored in sufficient depth. In many universities, the presence of a native English speaker lecturer is frequently regarded as an automatic “value added” for a study program, as if it inherently guarantees better learning outcomes and higher student motivation. However, the reality is far more complex. Important questions arise: To what extent do their performances truly support students’ engagement in class? How are their teaching styles perceived by local students? How well do they adapt to cultural differences, learner characteristics, and the prevailing education system? This book is an attempt to address such questions in a structured and scholarly manner. Through the presentation of relevant theories, research findings, and critical analysis, this book aims to provide a more comprehensive picture of native English speaker lecturers’ performances highlighting not only their strengths, but also the challenges and limitations that may arise in practice. It is hoped that this work can serve as a useful reference for study program managers, lecturers, students, and researchers who wish to understand the dynamics of teaching and learning involving native English speaker lecturers in a more realistic and balanced way. In this sense, the decision to employ native speakers is expected to be based not merely on image or prestige, but also on sound pedagogical considerations, cultural sensitivity, and the real needs of learners. |
